India will Induct many More Women into Military Police Corps

Captain Tania Shergill, an officer with Army's Corps of Signals, will be the first woman parade adjutant for the Republic Day parade, sources said on Monday.
A parade adjutant is responsible for the parade.
Commissioned in March 2017 from the Officer Training Academy, Chennai, Captain Shergill is an electronics and communications graduate, they said.
Her father, grandfather and great-grandfather have also served in the Army.
In last year's Republic Day parade, Captain Bhavna Kasturi was the first woman officer to lead an all-men contingent.
The Republic Day parade will witness Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-2K of the 18 Mechanised Infantry, Dhanush Gun System and the Army Air Defence on the Rajpath.

Contingents of the Corps of Signals, Sikh Light Infantry, Kumaon Regiment, the Grenadiers, the Parachute Regiment will also take part in the parade.

Meanwhile, for the first time, Tania Sher Gill will lead the Army Day Parade in New Delhi. An officer of the Corp of Signals, Tania Sher Gill was commissioned in March 2017.

Tania Sher Gill will be the first woman army officer to lead men in the Army Day Parade on 15 January. Captain Tania Sher Gill from the Corp of Signals, who will be the Parade Adjutant, was commissioned in March 2017 from the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

More Benefits for Veterans

The Indian Army chief also said that the veterans of the 1965 and 1971 wars will be given freedom fighters' pensions.
“After retiring, veterans are still busy in nation-building through various fields. The welfare of veterans is always our priority. Last year, we helped 240 officers and 11,500 junior commissioned officers get jobs after retirement,” he said.

The Armed Forces celebrate Veterans Day on 14 January, the day on which the first Field Marshall General KM Cariappa retired from service, to honour the veterans in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
In the Indian Army, there are 1,561 women officers (excluding Medical, Dental and Nursing) in different arms and services, as per the data through 1 January 2018. In the Medical Services of the Indian Army, there are 4,832 women.

Women began joining the Indian Army through the Indian Military Nursing Service, formed during the British Rule in 1888. Women were first taken into the army in non-medical roles in 1992. Women are joining the army as soldiers for the first time via the Corps of the Military Police.

With 12 new coronavirus cases in Indore, Madhya Pradesh’s tally jumps to 98

Twelve more coronavirus patients have been found in Indore, taking the total number of such cases in Madhya Pradesh to 98, an official said on Thursday. Of the total cases in the state, 77 per cent are from Indore, he said. The 12 new patients include an 80-year-old woman and three from a family whose nine members earlier tested positive for coronavirus, an official of the Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial college in Indore said. Out of the total 98 coronavirus cases in the state, 75 have been reported from Indore, eight from Jabalpur, six from Ujjain, four from Bhopal, two each in Shivpuri and Gwalior and one from Khargone, health department official said. Indore, which is an industrial hub, is the worst affected by coronavirus in the state. Majority of Covid-19 patients in Indore have no travel history and they contracted the infection at the local level, the official said.
